Clevedon woman is carrying sister's baby – again! -
13 Aug 2008, This is Bristol
|
| |
"Sisterley love means a former Clevedon woman will have the second baby she thought cancer had denied her. Alex Patrick's sisters Helen Ritchie and Charlotte Pestell, who still live in the town, have joined forces again to give her the chance to have a brother or sister for her three-year-old son Charlie. The trio, who grew up in a nine-bedroom house on the seafront, made national headlines in 2005 when Alex's twin Charlotte donated her eggs and older sister Helen carried Charlie in the first known surrogacy arrangement of its kind in the UK..." Young mum’s amazing gift to childless couple -
12 Aug 2008, Daily Echo
|
| |
"When Kayleigh Williamson was first told that she might never be able to have children, she tried to shove it to the back of her mind. At the tender age of 16, she was more interested in being a teenager than dwelling on her doctor's diagnosis. But when she did fall pregnant a year later, Kayleigh was devastated to lose her baby at 20 weeks. While no one could tell her whether the miscarriage was linked to her condition - she has polycystic ovaries, which can harm fertility - she was terrified that she may never conceive naturally..." Surrogate success -
12 Aug 2008, The Manly Daily
|
| |
"When Forestville mother Lisa Banfield refers to her twins Joshua and Lucas as her little miracles you'd better believe it. It took six years, many dashed hopes and a challenge to new Australian laws before she and her husband John finally realised their dreams of becoming parents with the assistance of a surrogate mother in the United States. But those scant details don't do justice to the more miraculous aspects of Lisa Banfield's story which made headlines back in 2004. That's why she has become a beacon of hope for other childless couples with dwindling options who regularly contact her for advice about surrogacy..." Open full report

Election stalls couple's surrogacy plans -
08 Aug 2008, The West Australian
|
| |
"While the early election has scrapped work completed on the Surrogacy Bill it has also left one Perth couple fearing they will never have children. Speaking on ABC Radio this morning, Desiree Case spoke of her distress at having to wait even longer for the surrogacy laws to be finalised so they could have a child in WA. The law was passed 26-5 in a conscience vote in June, but amendments to the Bill had not been accepted by the Lower House..." Open full report

Law to regulate surrogacy a long way from delivery -
08 Aug 2008, The Indian Express
|
| |
"Even as a debate on the need to have a law to regulate surrogate motherhood rages on, the Central Government, despite making the right noises, is still to come up with a final draft for such a law. A few of months ago, Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury had said that the Centre was working on having a law to regulate surrogacy. The law, she had said, would contain provisions to protect the rights of surrogate mothers and the children..." Open full report

Confused in Connecticut. Judges issue conflicting decisions regarding gay couples and surrogates -
07 Aug 2008, Proud Parenting
|
| |
"Two judges in Connecticut recently issued conflicting decisions in lawsuits seeking enforcement of gestational surrogacy agreements between male couples and the surrogates who helped them. GayCityNews reports that a recent amendment to Connecticut law - governing birth certificates - specifically addresses gestational surrogacy, but does not go into effect until October 1. The timing forces courts to manage the agreements - under current law that ignores them..." Open full report

Child born to surrogate in India in legal limbo -
06 Aug 2008, The Associated Press
|

"A child born to an Indian surrogate mother and intended for a Japanese couple is in legal limbo after the pair divorced. Ikufumi Yamada, 45, and his then-wife Yuki Yamada, 41, signed a surrogacy agreement with Priti Patel in November. But the couple divorced shortly before the girl was born almost two weeks ago and the wife no longer wants to adopt, said Sanjay Arya, the doctor looking after the child. The surrogate mother has also left the child, he said Tuesday...." Open full report

Dim economy drives women to donate eggs for profit -
05 Aug 2008, CNN.com
|
| |
"With a full load of classes, two young children, and her bills piling up, Michelle decided to face her economic straits in a pretty unorthodox way. She is donating her eggs to an infertile couple. "The cost of living is crazy right now, with two kids, gas prices, and rent...I'm living paycheck to paycheck" said the 24-year-old, who did not give her last name to protect her identity. "I just really need the money to finish school." Michelle is not alone. As the nation's economy is slumping, some fertility clinics say interest in donating has surged...." Open full report

Surrogate sister must be sterilised -
03 Aug 2008, Herald Sun
|
| |
"In an extreme step required to comply with Victoria's controversial surrogacy laws, the parents of two would need to be made "clinically infertile" before the woman became her sister's surrogate. The revelation has prompted calls for an overturn of the state's decades-old fertility laws. The Infertility Treatment Authority granted the childless couple formal permission to create an embryo, using their own egg and sperm through in-vitro fertilisation, last month...." Open full report

Can you help me become a mum? -
02 Aug 2008, Postnewspapers.com
|
| |
"A Nedlands woman's desire to start a family has led her to put out a call for an egg donor and surrogate mother, just as WA law looks poised to allow surrogacy for the first time. Kathryn, (45), who doesn't want her surname published, said she had been trying for years to conceive a child through IVF treatment, but had had no success. She said she had medical conditions that affected her fertility, making it very difficult for her to carry a child to term. One condition was an immune disorder that Kathryn said made it almost impossible for her to get pregnant, as her immune system rejected the foetus...." Open full report
