Control Your Destiny
We have witnessed Let's face it, when a couple wants to adopt a child, they spend significant sums of money without any assurance that they will ultimately end up with an adopted child. This is the reality of adoption in the U.S. Even if expenses are kept to a minimum and there are no "under the table" payments, the process is expensive. But the financial dilemma pales in comparison with the emotional roller coaster that couples desperately seeking a child go through. Every step of the way, the uncertainty and worry plague them. They don't know if they will be one of the lucky ones chosen as prospective adoptive parents. They don't know for sure - 100% sure - if the birth mom is sincere, or that she won't change her mind. Ultimately, the birth mom may not give up the child for adoption. Every couple has its own story.
Some stories are full of joy, When the birth mother gives up the child, there may still be problems. Comprehensive medical backgrounds are not always obtained for the father and even the mother. The child may suffer from genetic challenges, or complications caused from the mother's lifestyle during pregnancy (smoking, alcohol consumption or the use of recreational drugs). Even the lack of proper nutrition or prenatal care can become a concern. Adoptive parents are often placed at a disadvantage. They may feel they have no choice but to "settle" for any child, despite the potential medical problems.
How can there be more certainty in the process, Surrogacy in the U.S. seems to offer some help in this area. Unfortunately, the costs of IVF in the U.S. together with the additional costs of obstetrics and the real potential of law suits brought by surrogates (to keep the child and even seek child support from the genetic father who wants to adopt the child), have had a very chilling effect on surrogacy programs in the U.S. despite the inherent advantages of surrogacy. And then there is the fact that some jurisdictions don't allow surrogacy. At Proactive Family Solutions, we feel that couples and individuals seeking to have a family are not helpless. There is very professional and affordable medical care available in India, even if the donor's genetic material is of U.S. origin. Perhaps more important than the lower cost of surrogacy in India, is the fact that an Indian surrogate is far less likely to attempt to claim parental rights over the child, and the pregnancy will be closely monitored to make sure that the surrogate lives a healthy lifestyle during her pregnancy.
