The PFS Story
There comes a time in everyone’s life when they are touched by the heartache and hopes of others. For us, it was a combination of the true-life experiences of family, friends and associates that touched us and inspired us to found Proactive Family Solutions. Over the years, we have gained – personally or professionally – significant exposure to and experience with fertility, IVF and adoption issues.
When the birth mother gives up the child, there may still be problems. Comprehensive medical backgrounds are not always obtained for the father and even the mother. The child may suffer from genetic challenges or complications caused from the mother's lifestyle during pregnancy (smoking, alcohol consumption, or the use of recreational drugs). Even the lack of proper nutrition or prenatal care can become a concern. Adoptive parents are often placed at a disadvantage. They may feel they have no choice but to "settle" for any child, despite the potential medical problems.
How can there be more certainty in the process,
less emotional expense, and a greater control over the health background and conduct of the birth mother?
Surrogacy in the U.S. seems to offer some help in this area. Unfortunately, the costs of IVF in the U.S. together with the additional costs of obstetrics and the real potential of law suits brought by surrogates (to keep the child and even seek child support from the genetic father who wants to adopt the child), have had a very chilling effect on surrogacy programs in the U.S. despite the inherent advantages of surrogacy. And then there is the fact that some jurisdictions don't allow surrogacy.
At Proactive Family Solutions, we feel that couples and individuals seeking to have a family are not helpless. There is very professional and affordable medical care available in India, even if the donor's genetic material is of U.S. origin.
